How Do I Become A Guardian Ad Litem?

Those who want to be certified as a Guardian ad Litem must be at least 21 years old and successfully pass a level 2 background check. The applicant must also:

  1. Complete an application,

  2. Provide photo identification,

  3. Consent to a background investigation, including a federal criminal records check through the Federal Bureau of Investigation,

  4. Complete a personal screening interview,

  5. Provide three personal references (print 3 forms, one for each reference), and

  6. Successfully complete a 30 hour training program.  Training’s are conducted regularly.  Please contact the GAL Program office for the latest schedule.
